Anthony Pizarro is President of Romaeris Corporation. He has played a role in the creation or development of four companies, is an expert reviewer of business plans for two funding agencies promoting technology companies, and has sat on the boards of a number of public and private companies and nonprofit organizations. On Mar. 20, he will speak about The Economics of Unmanned Cargo Aircraft at the Unmanned Cargo Aircraft Conference, North Carolina Global TransPark, USA.
What drives you?
I am passionate about the potential of technology to create a world with new opportunities and wealth for everyone; at the same time I believe we must always be aware of potential unanticipated social problems when previous ways of life are disrupted.
What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
Certainly there are a number of important trends converging these days such as the Internet of Things (IoT), additive manufacturing, and artificial intelligence. In 10 years we will likely not recognize the world compared to today.
What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
Certainly parts of the world that were previously isolated will have new opportunities to participate in the modern economy, and all people will potentially benefit from lower costs and better solutions in many areas of life. However, as technology advances and becomes more complex and specialized, there may be greater gaps between people who have skills and those who do not, and security issues that may result from the reduction of costs of powerful technologies.
What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
Regulatory and safety concerns will need to be satisfied, but this will be possible with adequate effort.
What do you hope people to learn from your presentation?
That the longstanding cost metrics and patterns of business in an entire, large industry are about to change.
